Ash and Brock start their new adventure in Hoenn with their new friends May and Max. Misty stays in Kanto to replace her sisters as Gym Leader.

Important Events in the series include:

Ash arrives in Littleroot Town where Pikachu falls ill, Ash is helped by Prof. Birch and May. Pikachu destroys May's bike so she begins traveling with Ash after she chooses Torchic as her first Pokemon.

Ash and May meet Team Magma.

Ash battles unofficially against May's father and loses. Ash and May decided to head off and battle him again once they become stronger, May's brother Max then joins them.

Brock returns and Ash captures a Tailow.

Team Rocket release their Arbok and Weazing so they can help protect the other Pokemon from hunters.

James captures a Cacnea.

Ash captures a Treecko.

Jesse captures a Seviper.

Brock captures a Lotad.

May and Jesse both capture a Wurmple.

The group meet Team Aqua for the first time.

May learns about Contests and decides to enter them instead of becoming a trainer.

Ash beats Roxanne and wins a Stone Badge.

Ash loses against the Dewford Gym Leader Brawly.

The group run into Steven.

Ash captures a Corphish.

May's Wurmple evolves into Silcoon while Jesse's evolves into Cascoon.

Brock capture's a Mudkip.

May's Silcoon evolves into Beautifly while Jesse's Cascoon evolves into Dustox.

Ash battles Brawly again and wins a Knuckle Badge.

May learns about PokeBlock and is given a PokeBlock case, she then enters her first contest but loses.

Ash beats the Mauville Gym Leader Wattson with his Super Charged Pikachu and is given the Dynamo Badge.
